NEWS: GolfTEC named one of Fast Company’s ‘Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Sports’

By GolfTEC Digital

CENTENNIAL, Colo. — GolfTEC, the world leader in golf lessons, has been named to Fast Company’s ‘Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Sports‘ list as part of the publication’s 2017 release of ‘The World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies.’

Landing at No. 9, GolfTEC joins some heady company such as Twitter and ESPN, which arrives as yet another indicator of GolfTEC’s industry-leading place in golf instruction.

Big Data meets golf

Since 1995, GolfTEC has used technology to aid how golfers learn and improve. It was a simple, yet bold idea at a time when the Internet was just finding its way. That notion has since led to millions of lessons taught worldwide, a 96-percent success rate and continued growth in the realm of fact-based instruction as technology in golf has evolved.

In early 2016, GolfTEC leveraged its unmatched data collection in the game with the initial release of its SwingTRU Motion Study.

An unprecedented study and the largest of its kind, SwingTRU is an aggregation of 48 different body motion measurements taken from thousands of golfers. These body positions, and hundreds of thousands of data points by association, were cross-referenced to skill level which subsequently found average positions in the swing directly correlating to a golfer’s handicap.

Explained simply, that means GolfTEC is able to provide a factual starting place for its Coaches and students to aid improvement. It is an invaluable resource in an industry that was long dominated by subjective opinion.

The GolfTEC SwingTRU Motion Study is golf’s version of Big Data. It has caught the attention of many in the industry, including the likes of Forbes and others outside of golf that realize the incredible value of aggregating and analyzing data to move the game forward.

The study’s most recent recognition on Fast Company’s prestigious list ‘for demystifying the golf swing with data’ continues to reaffirm GolfTEC is well served by its commitment to technology and using facts to teach the game.

But, while a humbling and welcome honor to receive, it’s just the beginning of GolfTEC’s commitment to Big Data. Subsequent findings of the SwingTRU Motion Study will only continue to redefine how the industry – and the rest of the world – views the power of Big Data and its critical application to teaching the game of golf.
