For the first time, Callaway has developed irons & hybrids using Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
There’s always an outlier in any group. And when it comes to the golf equipment industry, Callaway purposely likes to color outside of the lines, do things differently, and per se, live a mavrik way of life.
One great example of this happened just a year ago when they turned to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for help in designing the face of the Epic Flash driver. No one had ever used this type of technology before, and it proved to be exceptionally successful since the Epic Flash was the #1 driver all last year.
But because of Callaway’s constant drive to push the boundaries, they knew there were more opportunities with this type of technology. After investing in a new, more powerful supercomputer, Callaway’s R&D team was able to figure out how to utilize A.I. in irons and hybrids for the first time.
Mavrik distance in every face
The MAVRIK irons feature a new Flash Face Cup, built with the assistance from A.I. But what makes this engineering feat so unique is that every single loft has a different face architecture.
This was done with the ultimate intention.
Long iron faces were designed for launch and speed, the mid-iron faces were designed for speed and spin consistency, and the short iron faces were optimized for spin and precision.
But utilizing the new Flash Face Cup alone wouldn’t have been enough for Callaway. To further increase ball speed across all irons, they turned to the 360 Face Cup, which flexes and releases at impact on center and off-center hits, and combined this proven technology with the Flash Face Cup. In addition to their Tungsten Energy Core, these irons are designed to be the ultimate iron with stronger lofts while maintaining preferred trajectories, spin rates, and descent angles.
Distance that defies convention
Even though 2019 was a year of ‘firsts’ for Callaway with the utilization of A.I. and Machine Learning, 2020 is shaping up to be yet another year of ‘never been seen’ products. This year, the MAVRIK hybrids also feature a face that was designed with the assistance of a supercomputer.
Just like MAVRIK irons, the hybrids have been developed with a different face for each loft, thanks to A.I. and Flash Face. This specialization promotes optimal speed, launch angle, and spin rates for every single club. And just like every member of the MAVRIK line, Callaway isn’t tossing its proven technology out the window. The MAVRIK hybrids feature Jailbreak technology. The combination of the advanced face and the Jailbreak technology significantly increases ball speed.

MAVRIK Pro hybrid
The compact size, smaller profile, shallower face and cambered sole make the Pro closer to a fairway wood shape than an iron shape. Callaway has returned to a fairway-wood like shape at the request of better players, including Tour pros, who prefer the flatter lie-angle and versatility of the increased sole-camber, as well as a neutral CG and more neutral ball flight.
As with all other MAVRIK metalwoods, A.I. designed the face to work specifically with the specific characteristics of the Pro’s head shape, and with each specific loft. Available lofts include 2H, 3H, 4H, and 5H. Premium stock shaft is the KBS Tour Hybrid.
