TaylorMade launches a brand new line of drivers and woods with a revolutionary new shape featuring proven technology
We all know the saying, ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ And I think that goes through the minds of a lot of consumers during this time of year when golf equipment companies are releasing yet another round of drivers, woods, and irons. What was wrong with the previous batch of groundbreaking equipment that hit the market just a year ago? Absolutely nothing.
But if there’s something to be said about every single one of these equipment companies, they won’t release a new piece of equipment unless it’s better than its predecessor, and TaylorMade is no different.
And TaylorMade had a killer 2019 with the introduction of the Speed Injection technology in the M5 and M6 drivers, which make a big splash in a very crowded field of flashy drivers. So what’s on deck for this year?
If you were expecting an M7 and M8, we’re sorry to report TaylorMade took a side step of their usual routine and introduced another member to the TM team; meet the SIM driver.
SIM – Shape In Motion
Veering from tradition since 2016, when the M1 and M2 were first released, TaylorMade launched its first non-M-series driver in four years. However, the SIM drivers do feature some of the best technologies of the M-series drivers, including Twist Face, and Speed Injection.
So if the SIM drivers feature Twist Face and Speed Injection, what makes them so different from say, the M5 or M6? The SIM drivers (available in three different models: SIM driver, SIM MAX and SIM MAX D) feature a revolutionary newly shaped head
with an Aerodynamic Asymmetric Sole and Inertia Generator.
So what does this newly designed clubhead do and what do all of those big, fancy words mean for the golfers who are actually going to purchase this thing? Essentially, TaylorMade moved the Center of Gravity (COG) much farther back in the head of the club. This ultimately creates much higher MOI (moment of inertia) on the clubface.
This should intrigue you due to the fact that having a higher MOI on the clubface increases forgiveness if you happen to miss the ‘sweet spot.’ This redesigned head shape is meant to provide faster clubhead speed for more ball speed, resulting in greater distance. So, if you’re a golfer that could benefit from a little added distance off of the tee without sacrificing ball speed or direction (thanks to Twist Face), the TaylorMade SIM driver could be the driver for you.
