You don’t need a putting green to perfect your putting path, you can do it in the comfort of your own home

Working on your golf game during the colder months can be a little daunting. There are distractions from other sports or activities and the thought of going outside can seem pretty miserable. However, if there’s one simple thing you can work on during the ‘off-season’ that doesn’t take much effort but can pay huge dividends in the upcoming season, it’s your putting.

The last thing you’ll want to do this spring is to show up to the course with a rusty putting stroke. And because of that, Director of Teaching Quality, Patrick Nuber is going back to the basics and you won’t need to walk outside of your house to participate.

There are many different elements to putting but one that stands out is being able to hit the ball on the intended line. Golfers do different things to ensure the ball is on the right track like drawing a line on their ball or using a ball like Callaway’s Triple Track that already has lines printed on the ball. This is an effective method but it only goes so far if you don’t hit the ball with a square face.

In the video above Patrick takes his ball and places it on a line on the floor. When he hits the ball with a square face, the line on the ball will roll over itself and end up at the intended target. However, if he hits the ball with an opened or closed face, the line on the ball won’t roll over itself and the ball will end up far away from the target.

By practicing with a marked ball like this, you’ll be able to quickly tell if your putter face is square at impact. The more you practice this drill inside during the winter, the greater the chance you’ll take this same putting stroke with you to the course when the weather breaks.
