Mizuno’s Chris Voshall explains how the Mizuno JPX 900 Tour irons were designed specifically for Brooks Koepka

Not long removed from an action-packed (to say the least!) U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, there’s been a cool story making the rounds about Brooks Koepka’s irons.
His Mizuno JPX 900 Tour irons, to be exact, which were used with precision to help him rank fourth for the week in GIR at a clip of 49/72 greens.
If you aren’t familiar, the story goes like this: A few years ago when Nike Golf announced they were exiting the golf equipment business, Mizuno targeted Brooks Koepka – a then burgeoning star who had earned his chops on the European Tour – to make an iron with a similar “aggressive” look to which he had been accustomed.
That type of design, of course, wavered greatly from Mizuno’s more traditional makeups like the MP iron line, which had been the company’s flagship offering to the better player for many years.
But the folks at Mizuno wanted to expand their lineup and felt an up-and-coming marquee player could help their cause. A cause that would most likely occur within the contract-free confines that leads many of the world’s best to Mizuno when not under obligation.
Suffice it to say, here we are a few years later and the plan has worked – Koepka’s now gamed the Mizuno JPX 900 Tour irons to back-to-back U.S. Open victories. Not bad.
